Voxshelf privacy policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

Voxshelf is a free audiobook app for LibriVox recordings. It has no ads, no accounts and no tracking. This page explains the little information the app does send, and why.

What stays on your phone

Your library, lists, listening progress, downloads and settings are stored only on your phone. If you use Android's backup, your library and progress are included in your own Google backup so they come back on a new phone. Downloaded audio is not backed up.

What the app sends

Ratings and problem reports. When you rate a recording, the app sends your thumbs up or down, any problems you tick, any note you write, and the chapter you were on. Each phone gets a random ID so it can only rate a recording once; the ID isn't linked to your name, email or Google account. Other people only ever see totals, like "92% liked". Notes are never shown in the app. Problem reports (the problems you tick and your note) are copied to a private issue tracker on GitHub, which only the developer can see, so they can be fixed. Crash reports go there too.

Feedback. If you use "Report a problem or suggest an idea" in Settings, your message is posted publicly as an issue on the Voxshelf GitHub project, so anyone can read it. Problem reports also include the app version, Android version and phone model. The form says this before you send.

Crash reports. If the app crashes, the next time you open it, it sends a description of the error, the app version, your Android version and your phone model. Nothing about you or what you were listening to is included.

Services the app talks to

To play and show books, the app connects directly to:

Like any website, these services can see your phone's internet address when it connects. Voxshelf doesn't keep internet addresses, apart from briefly counting requests to stop spam.

What we don't do

Removing your ratings

Uninstalling the app (and deleting its Android backup, which keeps the random ID so your ratings follow you to a new phone) removes the ID, so your past ratings can no longer be linked to anything. If you'd like your ratings deleted, email hello@voxshelf.app.

Children

Voxshelf doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
